We had our summer series classic Saturday at lake Weiss. We had pre-fished earlier int he week and caught fish pretty well, but Saturday was a different story.
With Nate approaching the day started off overcast and warm and a slight breeze out of the SE with turned into a bigger breeze as the day went on.
We caught 9.63 lbs, finished second and had big fish with a 3.25 spot.
Was a strange day on the water, ran to our first place, fish chasing bait all around us, I missed two quickly on a walking topwater and my dad caught a small keeper on a trap. Fished around a point and back into a pocket I swapped to a 1/4 oz buzzbait with a white horny toad and got bit on three straight casts to start with, but no hookups, it was like the fish were just trying to suck in the buzz instead of eating it.
There were about 4 or 5 single willow grass stems sitting off the bank and I ran the buzzbait into one and finally got a bass to eat it, another small keeper. We swapped sides of the pocket, heading back out and had one small fish slap at the buzz and trap, but no hookups. Got around a shallow dock with a limb that was hung up in the underpinning, and pulled the buzz past that limb, hit it and had about a 5 pounder smash the buzz, but she never had it I guess, so I missed her.
After hitting that area hard with worms and creatures we packed up and fished a few places before heading up the river. Went to a backwater pocket up the river, caught 9 fish, only two were keepers and then headed back down to mid-lake.
Fished a shakey head and senko on some rip-rap and caught one more small keeper to finish the limit, then I caught the big spot on the shakey. That was the last fish we caught.
Water temps started in the 74 range and ended up in the 77 range. Sun came out later in the day and it got hot.
Tuesday the moving bite was really working, today almost nothing on moving baits, most everything came on worms around docks and rocks.
Anyway, second place and big fish nothing to sneeze at, but the day started with perfect conditions and it was really hard slow fishing.
