Hit PV yesterday in search of crappies, all for naught. However, we settled for what we found and a pile of perch was it. Marked a lot of fish almost everywhere we went but wind chased us off spots that were likely holding the crappie. Found a somewhat wind sheltered spot that had a large school of very nice perch. All age classes but some jumbos--at least 20 or so 10-12s to go with the scores of big dinks 8-9s. Must have released at least twice as many as we kept and kept 39. All mostly right on the bottom in 30 fow using standard ice fishing stuff--except the rods-- when fishing for them through the ice. It was encouraging to see all the different age classes as well as the size of a lot of them. Also caught numerous bull heads some up to a couple of pounds I'd guess. It should be a great ice fishing season at the View if the snow holds off a little bit. Forgot to take pics of the catch before cleaning. Just to dispel this being only a fish story I included a couple of the final product--true porn.[fishon]

Sounds like a lot of fun. Great detailed report. Kind of fun to ice fish from a boat isn't it? I had a blast last week at Hyrum, but sounds like you found bigger fish so that's even more fun. Try any spoons or raps? I stuck with jigs and I've wondered if I would have caught better fish with other lures. Thanks for the report. J

Yes SA it is fun ice fishing out of a boat but a little colder than an ice tent when the wind blows 15-20mph. We used jigs for the first half of the day and switched to hali later as it took too long for light stuff to hit the bottom. Was also easier to feel the bite, especially in the wind. We probably caught and released, without measuring of course, a couple of state record bullheads. Had no idea the C&R record was so small. May have even caught one to beat the catch and keep record. Next time....

I was finding the same thing weight wise. I got heavier tackle for this week and it helped but I still need to tune things up a bit before the ice. Crazy how cold it is when you get wet and the cold wind is blowing. Well best of luck. Later J
