Willard Shad Migration
#1
I just wanted to share a response I got from Chris Penne at DWR:

Q) Do the young shad of the year ever migrate back to the shores after heading to "openness"?

A) I don't think a large portion of the shad population ever truly migrates back into the shallows after they begin roaming the open water, at least not the young fish that are still vulnerable to being eaten. The larger ones may will come in shallow for spawning or seeking warmer water in the spring, but these events are short term. As for boils, they vary quite a bit each year but the best time to see boils is usually late August through September the end of September - think back to school and State Fair time and you won't forget when these happen.. Boils can happen in October and November, even December, but they are spotty for sure.

Thanks, that's good information. I didn't know that Willard had shad in it. I'd love to see a boil.
