Flaming Jorge question
#1
Looking to taking the family to the Jorge. Never been there so was wondering do I need a guide? Looking to ice fish for Macs and burbot. If I need a guide, does anyone know one? Looking to go Feb. 16,17 and 18.. Thanks for any help...Steve

A few years ago I went with Ashley Bonser, at flaminggorgefishin.com, and he was a great guide for both lakers and burbot, but his website doesn't seem to work so I am not sure what he is up to. TarponJim on here has been a guide since 1991 and has been a great asset to BFT forums, I am sure he will chime on as well. I am not sure if he guides through the hard water, but right now boat access is the best way to get to the big lakers. I personally don't know who currently guides through the ice.

If you are going for pups, it's easier to find them. I have had the best luck fishing in 50-60 feet on flats next to drop offs. I usually just use small jigs or tubes (4-5 inches not those 12 inch tube jigs).

Burbot, just find rocky structure anywhere from 20-60 ft of water from dusk to dawn, and fish anything glow in the dark tipped with sucker meat. Some guys prefer glow spoons, I prefer glowing soft plastics. Perhaps I have been fortunate, but I have never been skunked fishing for burbot.

This video pretty much has all the burbot info you could need.

This is probably a better video for ice fishing for Burbot, brought to us by RYNO

[#0000FF]I heard that Ash ran afoul of the licensing thing and can't guide anymore. Not sure of the details. Too bad. He was a great guide.

I will likely be offering guided open water trips on those days. Contact me through my website or by private message. But, I don't guide for burbot.

Bonser still owes people thousands of dollars in non-refunded deposits for guide no-shows. I've guided some of them this year. Buyer beware.

Never taken him out but talked to him while burbot fishing by him in our boat. Get bent guides might be an option.

Also bought rods from Jim. Definitely take him out if you want to jig for Lakers from a boat.

The get bent guide catches allot of burbot when I have been up there. Both him and Jim are options.

Sad.... he was a good guide back in the day. Had a great burbot trip with him years ago.

I attended Ashley Bonser"s seminars at the International Sportsmen's Exposition mostly every year. Excellent. Inspirational. Great information that works.
