Palisade State Park - More golfers than anglers
#1
A buddy and I fished PaliSade Reservoir today in our tubes from 10:00 until 2:30. The ice is completely gone from the reservoir and it is about 60% full.

We used both medium and fast sinking lines with size 6 bead head leeches and woolly buggers. The best fishing was in 8' - 12' FOW. The visibility in the water is only about 3' but that didn't seem to slow down the fishing. We caught a mix of tigers, rainbows, and one cutthroat. All of the fish were between 11" and 17" long with most of them in the 12" - 13" category.

The DWR fishing report mentioned that they stocked some 22" rainbows on January 25th but we didn't run into any of them. We did hook some larger fish but none of them were on long enough to see what they were.

It's hard to believe that on the 2nd of February there was no ice or even any snow on the ground here. I haven't fished here in five years so it was fun to check it out again.

This has really a crazy year for ice fishing but glad you were able to get out and catch some fish. Any idea what the elevation is there at PaliSade Reservoir?

It's not very high, 5,900' elevation, but it doesn't usually thaw out until the end of February or early March.
