Millsite - Dam/spillway construction- not much water
#1
A couple of us fished Millsite today from our tubes. The reservoir level is way down so work can be done on the dam and new spillway. We launched near the middle of the reservoir and covered most of it in 4 1/2 hours of fishing.

We were using medium sinking lines with size 6 - 8 bead head leeches in olive and plum. We tried a lot of other flies but none of them got any love. The water temperature was 36-37 degrees and the visibility in the water of about 3'. Yesterday's wind and the low water level made for the low visibility.[:/]

We picked up a few fish, all cutthroats from 15" - 20" long but overall the fishing was slow. There is a little ice near the inlet stream but as you can see from the pictures, the reservoir is ice free. There weren't any other anglers while we were there. The low water level makes for some messy bank fishing. the shoreline is all silt and it is slimy. I nearly pulled a flipper off trying to get out on shore. There really isn't any good place to launch right now. The boat ramp is a long way from the water.

It turned out to be a great day for fishing, it's too bad the catching couldn't have been a little better.[Wink]
