This is my first report (and first day fishing) of the year!
We did not do great. Arrived 9am ish with about 1/5 of the lake covered in a thin layer of ice. The ramp had been opened and we were the first boat on the water. Trolling rapalas quickly produced a 16 rainbow, which lead me to mistakenly infer that we'd catch more fish that way. I really wanted to intercept a big lake trout, but no luck there.
After giving up trolling, we picked up three splake just off a shallow shelf.
My mid-day the entire lake was open water, and the air temperature was very pleasant.
I'm not very experienced at this kind of fishing, so my guess is it could be better than this report suggests. Always fun to finally get back out on the water, though!
