Willard with my Mate
#1
outLooking at possibly only one good weather day this Memorial Day weekend, we got on to south marina about 7:30, and on the water before 8:00. Air temp at launch 63
water temp just out of the marina 66, warmed to 70 at 3:00 P.M. departure. Light breeze sometimes gusting up enough to make small white caps, but beneficial in keeping the bugs away. Trolled various lures, varied speeds west toward wall, turned north along east side of island, made a half loop on east side, headed east toward Freeway Bay. Cut south toward the feed lot, got into about 12 fow marked lots of shad and some bigger fish mixed in. Set anchors, put out bail lines. Moved along south wall about every hour. So far nada. Got into the south-east corner of Freeway Bay plan of attack to soak bait for an hour or so, then troll back to marina along wall.
12:10 first bait rod bent a little, and line pulled out toward open water. Boated first fish of the day, Cookie cutter Cat. Photoed for the cat contest, released. About 40 minutes later, wife hooked up one also.
About 1:20 decided to head toward marina. Ran close into the wall in 10-12 fow, slow trolling some untried rat-l-traps. Barely got the lines out, wife's pole bent over steady like a bottom snag. Got started reeling in with boat stopped, another Cat, tried to take the whole lure sideways. Boated and CPR'd. Got off water about 3:00 p.m.
Not a banner day, but kept out the skunk, had some relax time on the water.
