Smiles on the Berry ... 11-16-2018

[#800000]With the fishing so hot at the Berry these November days, my friends Ernie and Tyler planned and executed a fantastic trip to that blue ribbon fishery today.[/#800000]

[#800000]Once again, very few fishermen beat us to the Renegade Marina.[/#800000]

[#800000]Richard and Richard (r2u2 and his friend also named Richard) caravanned with us for the long drive up from Ogden. They, fishing in their 14' Gregor and us in our 17' Gregor enjoyed each other's close proximity fishing. I got a kick out of watching the Richards catch one after another.[/#800000]

[#800000]We headed first to a spot in Indian Creek that produced well last week. We weren't disappointed today either. Catching was exciting for about 2 hours until Ernie pealed and ate a banana right there on the boat. Fishing immediately slowed to a dribble. After having landed about 20 in our boat, and the banana curse well in effect, we decided to troll for a while until we found a new concentration of fish. We headed out eastward trolling through the Renegade Bay and catching was easy. But, it was the jigging we wanted. We marked a good stack of fish up on Renegade Point and spot locked. BINGO … every cast was bringing in fish. The trick was not vertical jigging … rather casting to the east and a very slow bottom bump/lift retrieve really got their attention. [/#800000]

[#800000]The best lure for our jigging was a 2.5" pure white (no sparkle) tube jig tipped with chub and slathered with Pro-Cure. Keeping fresh meat on the jig was also important. If a cast or two didn't produce, adding another piece of fresh chub would seal the deal.[/#800000]

[#800000]Even though I have had better days on that lake in November, today was still pretty darn good. We left for home while the catching was still red hot but we had a couple very important appointments (one of which was my 45th anniversary dinner). Ended the day with 57 fish (12+21+24), one rainbow and two cuts over the slot. The two Richards reported having caught over 20 each.[/#800000]

[#800000]These kept Ernie smiling all day long:[/#800000]

[#800000]It was great fishing alongside of the two Richards. Notice how calm that water was. The morning was fantastic. Then it got pretty choppy in the afternoon.[/#800000]

[#800000]Tyler schooled us on catching the big ones:[/#800000]

[#800000]And Richard-2 went home with a VERY nice rainbow:[/#800000]

[#800000]What a great day we had … me and some good friends. And, what a great way to spend my anniversary. I'm thinking maybe I should have invited my wife to join me.[/#800000]
