Uinta Fishing Report - epic
#1
So, it's open to Whitney, but still lots of snow up there. We did some gold panning, treasure hunting and tons of fishing. Whitney was hot on all the traditional trout gear: gold and silver metal, powerbait in many flavors, worms, and wet flies. They were hungry. Streams still running high so did not play that game. Oddly Whitney was not full. This video is one of three, and shows a little challenge cookie threw down to beat me with our mini ice rods. If I get time I will post the others on our channel. ( we did get a gold flake in the pan).

Gold panning with kids is a great summer outing. Ya, I still consider myself a kid.

It snowed on us two differnt days and was cold most of the trip. But beats work, even if Cookie beat me - oops gave away the ending.

If the temps stay up, I am headed to Whiskey Island to add grayling to the Grand Slam and maybe some more serious paning with the sluice.

Thanks for the report.
Did go through Evanston or up over Bald Mountain Pass to get there?

Went through Evanston. Not crowded like it can be but I am sure people were staying clear based on snow level reports. I camped in the first spot off the highway on the Whitney rd. Based on me getting stuck a couple weeks before, I did not try to reach our traditional spot up Mill City road. But after doing some recon the next day, all the good spots up Mill City and all the way to the lake were open for trailer access. The pass from Gold Hill rd over to the back side of Whitney, a popular ATV rd, is still snow bound and can require a winch to extract your ATV, got proof of that Smile

Fishing near the inlet was crazy. Got buckwheat and his wheelchair right into them, but seemed like people were having good luck everywhere we stopped to talk to them.

Remember, for anyone not familiar with the area rules, that the feeders streams and Beaver Lake are all closed till the second Saturday of July to let the Cuts spawn in peace, so look, but no snagging.
