Strawberry Crawdads
#1
Went up to Strawberry on Sunday after some crawdads, and unfortunately I think I missed the good-time to get them in the day time by a few weeks. Only managed to catch 20 in a few hours, which is well short of the ~200 I normally harvest. Of the females, only one was loaded with eggs, and every other one just had a few residual eggs that were stuck on their shells.

I did get to see a rather large (probably slot buster) cutthroat swim around next to the Soldier Creek boat ramp and terrorize all the little minnows, which was neat.

Well, I think that's a first for me - never heard anyone talk about anything but great catches of crawdads at the berry. Will be very intrested to hear from the BFT crew on this, if they see similar mid summer slow down on crustys as I was planning a run and boil in a few week.
