DWR Budget
#1
[#800000]Just a general observation and not directed at any one person. Unlike the general population of Utah, and the rest of the country for that matter, State Agencies have to live within the boundaries of a specific budget. The DWR is no exception. The most recent budget analysis is from FY2018. The Utah DWR had a $99M budget. Revenue to fund that budget came from 4 sources; one of which came from the sale of hunting and fishing licenses and permits at $38.8M (39.14%). Second largest source was Federal USF&W at $34.5M (34.83%). General funds (tax dollars) account for nine percent of DWR's annual budget at $8.1M (8.16%). These funds are used primarily for sensitive species, law enforcement, wildlife depredation and some fish hatchery programs. Because the legislature has indicated that the DWR should not use hunting or fishing license revenue to fund nongame species management, these funds help cover the costs of nongame management. [#800000]Most, if not all, of the programs and facilitties under the DWR control are wanted by or needed for the general population. But most folks think that we are being ripped off when we actually have to pay for it. And the younger you are, the more likely it is that you think it should be free. Sorry, the REAL world doesn't work like that. You might want to think about that a little more before complaining about the cost to enjoy the great outdoors along with the other 3.1 million people living here in Utah along with several million more non-resident tourists that come here every year.[/#800000]

[#800000]To me, paying $16 for a days fishing beats the Hell out of spending that and more to go to a single movie and buy a small bag of popcorn and a small drink. Just saying.[/#800000]
