Thank you Pat for the flig starter pack, we put it to good use today on our tour of Utah Lake. We launched from the state park and ran north to the bubble up where we got our first cat in 5 ft of water on the purple fire tiger gorilla flig tipped with a chub, we missed one more there. We then ran down south of Powell Slough and worked back north along the reads in 5-6ft of water where we picked up 6 more cats and one white bass, next we ran down to Bird Island and then to Lincoln where we got nothing and we called it a day. We caught our fish on both chubs and white Bass. The largest cat of the day was 28”. It was not fast action but we did have 1 double and the weather could not have been better, just enough of a breeze to push the boat along at .5 mph.

[#0000FF]Sounds like you covered a fair bit of the lake. Did you ever try any deeper water? A lot of the fish have been coming from 8-10 feet lately.

We fished out to 8-9 ft. At Lincoln and bird island with no love. At the bubble up we started there and worked out straight of the end of it for several hundred yards and never found any water deeper than 7ft.

[#0000FF]The northern part of the lake is more of a big flat bowl with no rocks or structure. The best places to find rocks and deeper areas of the lake are off Lincoln Beach, around the Island and off the Knolls. But even though the water is shallower around Lindon I have almost always found fish there...sometimes fairly shallow but the 5' mark is almost always productive.[/#0000FF]

[#0000FF]Even after fishing Utah Lake for several decades I still have to look for fish on every trip. With little structure or reliable food sources all of the fish move around a lot looking for either comfort or food...or both. But once you find a "zone" you can have memorable outings.[/#0000FF]
