Wiper Check at Cottonwood
#1
Well my wife indicated that I would not be fishing friday morning and I wasn't too upset because with all the storms Starvation was going to be in fine form. My wife in kids headed out to Provo about 1 pm and I decided to make a quick trip to Cottonwood to check on the Wipers. I hit the water around 2 pm water temp 73 degrees and since I launched at the inlet and my favorite Wiper spot is on the other side of the reourvoir I decided to throw on the biggest crank baits that I have and troll over hoping to entice a musky. Well no takers by the time I arrived at Wiper central so I reeled in my lines and started hunting for a school of Wipers. Started at 20 fow working my way in shallow and at 10 fow I had my first taker a chubby 14 inchers that made my drag on my ultralight sing. I fished the first area until the wind came up and they vanished from the sonar. I caught 8 with the average being around 14 inches before I had to go on the hunt for more fish. I found a little secluded bay that was somewhat out of the wind but it was pretty shallow around 5 fow. I started throwing a jig with a maniac minnow out to the deeper water 9 fow and what would you know I caught my biggest of the day a 16 incher but it didn't seem as fat as the rest. I ended up catching another dozen or so ending my day catching 20 in about 2 1/2 hours witch is a pretty darn good day. I kept a limit for my wife's coconut fish recipe always good eats.

I am going to be on Starvation in the morning to try an find some eyes for Pat an I next week.

I wondered the same thing so I did some searching. Its North of Gusher which is east of Roosevelt. It looked to me like maybe hard to launch a boat. Maybe Randy can give us some advice.

It's has several spots where you can launch a boat the difficulty depends on water level from one spot to another. I have seen some good size boats out there but your first time there you will want to be real careful but there plenty of places that are harder to launch. There are also Muskies in there and I have talked with people that have caught them up to 44 inches the funny thing is there are a lack of forage fish so the Muskies feed on Wipers.

Fyi I found the bulk of fish in 10 fow or less. It was also on the NE part of the Reourvoir.
