Willard Perch Poundin' 11-15-19

[#0000ff]Wasn't Friday the 13th...it was the 15th. And the full moon has fizzled a bit. Also heard there were a few perch showing up. Couldn't stay away today...even if Friday is the new Saturday...and I had company.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Launched just after 7 am. Air temp 36...first time I have launched in temps above freezing for almost a month. No hand warmers and the gloves were off within about an hour. Banana belt. Water temp right on the bubble at 45...not warming much by noon.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The last two trips I have tried inside the marina there were no shad and no fish. Today there were lots of shad and enough fish to keep me in the marina all morning. And the shad schools were sometimes very dense. In two of the attached pics you will see how the depth reading jumped from 12 feet to 7 feet as the shad school passed by.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]First perch volunteered right about 7:30. Had a couple more by 8...but tossed them both back in because they were a measly 8 inches. Ditto for a couple later. But from start to finish about noon I got bites often enough to keep me interested. I missed a few tentative bites and lost a couple of jumbos as I was reaching for them with the net. But I ended up with 10 perch over 10 inches. Good enough for me.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Oh yeah, I also got a 2 foot long "whisker perch". And I know WH2 and Wiperslayer got at least one cat today while I was watching. See the pic on that. I know they also got a few perch but I left before they did so not sure on their totals for the day.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I tried several colors of fligs. The "chartreuse perch" was about the only consistent producer. Best bait was some small LHBE minnows. But caught one each on crawler and perch meat.

[#0000ff]A purty fall day. Just enough pesky fish to keep me from getting in a nap while bobbing around in the marina. I managed to stay awake on the way home and took care of the napping then.
