This year I'll start to use larger lures

As anyone who has read my posts going back a few years, small soft plastics rigged on light jig heads have been the focus of them. But last year I figured: why not troll a crankbaits - a Rapala Risto Rap and see what bites.

Earlier that year I started using Beetle Spin spinners and caught fish:

As important was the large curl tail grub attached which I haven't cast in years.
The spin also caught fish using different grubs:


I have caught bass on this unique spinnerbait with rotating arm and rear Colorado blade attached, but it's been sitting around for over a decade. Guess I'll have to dust it off:


As important as going larger is going carrying along the right tackle casts and retrieves larger heavier lures and has more chances catching larger fish. Baitcast and larger spinning reels attached to medium action rods should do it. You can't do it using a dinkie light action rod casting 4" Zara Spooks, 1/2 oz skirted jigs and trailers, spinnerbaits (above example), etc. and long distance hook sets are far better. Thank God for braid!
