Joes Valley - Almost ice free

A couple of us fished JV today in our tubes using fast sinking lines and a size 6 bead head plum leech with a purple tail, size 8 bead head black/silver crystal bugger, and a size 8 bead head (green) green/pearl crystal bugger.
We launched across from the sportman's lodge on the north end of the reservoir at 9:00 with calm water.  We fished until 3:30 and there was only a slight breeze.
The reservoir is still about 1/3 covered with ice but it is going fast.  We were going to launch at the new boat ramp but the ice had pushed up on shore on the ramp.
We picked up four splake, five cutthroats, and the rest were rainbows from 11" to 14" long, with most of them in the 11" - 12" range.
The reservoir is 79% full and rising.  The water temperature was 41-44 degrees and the visibility in the water of about 7'.
There were some folks out riding atv's and side by sides and a few bank fishermen.
It was a great day for our first trip to JV for the year.

Not this time.  The cutthroats were all between 14" and 16".
