No ice. A few large sheets were on the lake last week, but those mostly blew off. It is VERY rare for Bear Lake to freeze over earlier than Jan 15h in most years. Last year was the first time (since record keeping began in about 1911) that the lake did not freeze over for 4 consecutive years. It has not froze over in 3 consecutive years several times in history, but never 4 years in a row. We just don't seem to be getting those -20F freeze snaps (lasting 5-7 consecutive days) that are needed to lock-up the big pond. Also, during the super cold snaps, it needs to be fairly calm too. So, kinda like the PowerBall lotto, if you were a betting man, it would be a good bet that it should freeze this year, but just like 2020, nothing is a given any longer.

As for the fishing, its been red-hot for cutthroat trout and lake trout right now. Jigging has been excellent and trolling has been really good too.

Well hopefully it locks up. Dipping in waders is no fun. For me anyways.
Thanks for the info.
