Willard North 7\20
#1
I was a little slow getting around this morning. Launched my kayak about 7:30.  Caught the first kitty just outside the mouth of the marina.  Took another 30 or 40 minutes before the next one.  Seemed like they came in spurts. I'd get a fish or two then go 30 or more minutes for the next ones.  Pulled a FLIG on one rod and a santee rig on the other one, both tipped with m marinated chicken.  .5 MPH and 8-10 FOW seemed like the sweet spot. Started to warm up so I was off the water by 10:30 and headed down the road for some local tomatoes at one of the Willard fruit stands.  Not a bad way to spend the morning and the tomato sandwich for lunch only made it better.

Good job of avoiding the skunk. Any sweet corn yet along the fruitway?

Yes. Ears are a little small but excellent. Earliest peaches are also available. I bought a couple peaches and was pleasantly surprised. Next time, I'll get more peaches.

Thanks. I got assigned corn for Sunday dinner. I'll add peaches.

Pettingill's is THE place to go. Just north of the Smith& Edwards turnout on Hwy 89. On Saturday mornings at 9 am, they get Jack's Bread Truck. If you have not had Jack's bread, you have not eaten bread.

And get a jar of their CANDIED jalapenos. Not pickled...candied. Dice 'em small, mix with cream cheese and spread on crackers. Thank me later.

I drove down from Brigham to get the corn. Yes, the ears are smallish, but only $5/dz.  BONUS! Was getting gas at Perry's Maverick at $4.85. Only $1.50 more than 18 months ago.

Only $1.50, LOL. So it was $3.35, 18 months ago, good to know, in the back of my mind it was under $2.00 but that was likely months earlier and it did not last long.

I just pulled the $1.50 number out of my ashes.

I payed $ 4,80 a gallon in Evanston Thursday. If you don t pack all your water and gas up all those hills getting there you can save a lot on gas. Most camp grounds have water and a lot of the service stations will let you top off your water if you buy your gas there. Makes no since to hull 500 or 600 hundred pound's up all those canyons. Just a thought.

Isn't it odd that we will chase to the other side of town to save a nickel a gallon, pump in 20 gallons, and save only $1.

When gas was 15 to 20 cents cheaper at the off ramp at Brigham, I use to drive up there all the time to get gas in my car but it gets 36 mpg. My truck was another issue, I'd never drive that far for cheaper gas when it only gets 11 to 13 mpg, unless I'm going to the North marina to fish anyway. You are likely correct, probably did not save more than a $1 or $2, especially when you consider how many miles round trip it was.

More good news: diesel has come down to $5.10 at the corner store near me. It was up around $5.70 a few weeks ago. What I'm afraid of is that the oil companies will get us used to high prices so that we'll be glad that it goes down to say, $3.99.
The older I get the more I would rather be considered a good man than a good fisherman.

Who woulda thunk a year ago that we would be cheering $4.85 gas prices?
