Flaming Gorge 8/12-13
#1
We spent a couple days up at the Gorge for a quick family vacation.  Mostly playing on the boat and trying to avoid the afternoon thunder showers.  Early mornings were out chasing fish.  Fished the Utah side and first morning fished out of Sheep Creek. Still pretty dark when we launched and motored out. First lines in the water when it was just getting light and 2 minutes later had a koke in the boat.

We caught several more fish, including quite a few nice rainbows and a cutthroat. Green was the  preferred color today and caught most of the fish, but the biggest rainbow came on white. No more kokes and no schools marked just a few marks here and there. Off the water by 9.

Next morning launched out of Lucerne again very early.  Trolled for macks 1st and hooked into a good one, but ended up losing it a few minutes later. Too bad, it felt really heavy. On to trying for kokes again and found a couple of really nice ones, including losing another really nice one at the boat. Orange caught nearly all fish today, especially one particular rod.  I even changed to orange on another 2 rods, but that pole was the hot one. Again several rainbows.  The 2 big kokes went 21" and 20". Still no schools, just scattered fish.  Caught most fish around 45' deep.  Off the water at 9:15.

I wanted to fish more, but again the family wanted to play.

Looks like some nice fish, even if you didn't get out as much as you would have liked. Just have to get some fishing time in the best you can, so you can keep everyone happy.

Work life has definitely got in the way of fishing this summer. 6 days a week going on 2 months. So the vacation was a good all the way around. Yes the fish were nice.  Thanks Curt.

Back in the 80's when I was a lot younger, we were working mandatory 12 hour shifts and we had to change shifts every month. One month I was getting off at 3:30 am, the next month I was going to work at 3:30 am, did that for a whole year.
