Willard 5-19
#1
Well fished Willard today got on the water around 9 as we were waiting to see if the wind  would die down. It did and off we go trolling  cranks and nothing. Tried all speeds nothing. Made a call and changed things up and was able get 3 walleye. Thanks to Dan for the help.

Nice, glad you started to get into them, it should continue to improve over the next few weeks. The info you added is what I've been posting about for over the last month, you have to get deeper to catch those fish early in the season, whether it by using lead core line, snap weights or as you found out, keel weights. As Tubedude always states, the bottom is where the food is, early in the season and if you aren't within a few feet of the bottom, the catching is harder. Not to say you can't catch them in the upper water column but there are fewer fish there, the biggest numbers are within 2 to 3 ft of the bottom. How much keel weight were you using?

Hey Pete, are you saying you are bottom bouncing at speeds as fast as 1.2 to 1.5 mph?

Really? You must not be even hitting the bottom going that fast, unless you let out a hundred feet of line. We just use lead core line when we are going that fast.

As long as you are catching fish that's all that matter and lately just being close to the bottom with catch you fish.
