Bonus day at Willard 10/06/24
#1
Hit the North Marina about 7:30 planning to play with the small wipers. Headed South toward Freeway dragging flicker shads. The first fish to bend my rod was a chunky 11 inch smallie followed by a 12 inch wiper soon after. An hour later my rod finally gets more action with a 15 inch wiper that goes into the bucket for supper. Another hour later, a nice 17 incher (3lb) comes to the boat and into the bucket. Nice fish!! Scoured the area another half hour to get my bonus fish of the day. I knew it was a good one because it had my medium heavy rod almost doubled when it struck. I figured it was a large catfish, but to my surprise it was a 22+ inch Wiper. I invited the 15 & 17 inchers home and left the rest to swim another day. Almost cried letting the big wiper go. All hookups were in about 16 fow at 2.7-3.2mph. The faster speed gave better action to my lures.
I looked at the summer contest data for wiper and it looks to be 14.5 inch. So the contestants can expect to better their wiper score perhaps.

Congrats on the 22” wiper. 17” was my biggest today. Same report as others. Shad pattern 2mph was my best speed for me. No joke I boated over 30 wipers today.
