Nice. It seems all of our local water bodies are on a perch up swing both numbers and size
Remember: keep the lid on the worms, share your jerky, and stop by to say hi to Cookie and the Cowboy-Pirate crew

Nice haul of some good sized perch, how long were the biggest ones? Were you vertical jigging them?

The biggest ones were 11 3/4" all nice and fat, I marked them on the sonar and then put out an old school marker buoy set an anchor and was vertical jigging. The fish were on the bottom and suspended up to 5' off the bottom, one thing I didn't mention was they were mixed in with schools of crappie I knew they were in there but was my first time catching them there, we were catching 1/1 perch and crappie. Nice, we have always known they were there but few people catch them in numbers like that, cool that the crappie were there too. Thanks for the added info. Was there any size to the crappie?

Regarding the stringer!! Berkley makes a quality one w/ stainless steel chain and clipsw. I believe you can get them at Sportsman's!! As to crappie at Deer Creek !! Someone put them in there years ago, but they never really took off, lack of forage. I would imagine that they would be fairly small, 6-8 inches mostly. I caught an 11 incher years ago, my only decent one!!

I caught an 11 incher years ago, my only decent one!! I was fishing in the Walsburg arm a few years ago catching walleye from my float tube, which was my target. I also caught a big crappie that was 16 inches long. It was a definite surprise.I also scored some nice crappie from shore on a different outing. I think I caught like 10 in the 13 to 15 inch range. It reminded of the big crappie like that I used to catch out of Pineview before the tiger muskies were stocked. Once the muskies got big enough, those pig crappie were no more. Gabe

That is the best perch stringer I've seen from DC in a while. Do you know what teh water temp was? Thanks for the report and the picture. |
