Cascade Perch...TV Program
#1
The Pursuit channel...#604 on Direct TV...will be showing a half hour program tomorrow (Friday the 13th) on Idaho's famous Cascade Lake.  The advance promo says it will be highlighting the jumbo perch for which the lake is so well known.

Fun fishery! For us we find fishing Cascade in early summer (mid June) is awesome also in September. We’re done ice fishing there as it’s so much more productive on the soft water can cover a lot more water and not dealing with deep slush.. If anyone needs tips on fishing it let me know. Been fishing up there for over 10 years.

Just what the lake needs - more publicity.  NOT!

I've said it before, the Internet and media exposure is the worst thing to have happened in the sport we all love.

Well 'scuse me.  I posted this for the benefit of a few BFTers who either already love that lake...or who have been wanting to know more about it.  I didn't make the program and schedule it to run on national TV.  But, even so, that lake is far from being overfished.  And I don't think this program is gonna have that much of an effect on it.

I wasn't talking about that lake specifically, rather for most fisheries in general.

Idaho game and Fish does yearly sampling of Cascade and even they have indicated the fishery is healthy. So I’m not overly concerned about it getting a little national exposure. It’s already had it plenty of exposure and isn’t that what’s this and other sites are about providing information. If you can fish it fish it is what we say. Personally we like the soft water and most boats we’ve ever seen is 4-5 and it’s all our group. It’s a big body of water with plenty of fish.

My comment was not directed at you for posting it on BFT.  My comment was in reference to publicizing the lake on a national venue.  Think Rockport perch after it was publicized on Doug Miller's show.

I fished Cascade for perch in the winter for several years.  I saw a decline in the numbers and the sizes being caught as the word spread via the Internet about the quality of perch being caught there through the ice.  The perch derbies got bigger every year and the perch population degraded.  With another national exposure, I believe the impact will be negative.  Just MHO.

Interesting read slightly dated but you’ll get the point.  It isn’t over harvesting per Idaho Game and Fish.  Just because one “THINKS” it’s over harvesting doesn’t see the whole picture like game and fish does.

Very interesting article. Thanks. Makes me think more about the different fish that are planted in Jordanelle that effect the small size of Kokes that are planted.

That’s why I don’t have TV anymore, I’m adicted to YouTube. Way better stuff on YouTube than TV anymore and you get to watch what you want without going through 150 channels to find there’s nothing of interest on. Besides TV doesn’t have TubeDude videos. Later J
