Deer Creek ice???
#1
On January 15 there was a post saying that Deer Creek was still open water. We've had nearly two weeks of cold weather since then. Has anyone seen ice forming on Deer Creek yet?

I was there on the 24th and fished near the main boat ramp in my tube.  The area by the dam was frozen and the top 3/4 of Wallsburg Bay was frozen.  The State Parks guys said there were some folks fishing the ice up near the Charleston end.  The island boat ramp is iced in and pretty much from the island to the inlet is frozen.

Good luck but be careful if you go.

I drove by this morning. Most of the lake is capped. I did not drive in to the main ramp. It might still be open, but not lots of water to fish if you do launch. There were a couple brave guys fishing ice near the island.

Thanks for the update.

A couple of us are planning to try and fish there again this week from our tubes and it is sounding like it might be a little shaky for access.

Soft water is going fast. I took a drive to Jordanelle on Sunday and found the north marina iced in. The PWC ramp was open. On Deer Creek the Island marina and north was iced up but much of the lake was still open.
I pulled the boat up to Jordanelle this morning (my drive by of Deer Creek reported above). The cold temps 0* as I passed Deer Creek and 12* at Jordanelle had changed things since Sunday. Much of Deer Creek was capped. I'm not sure if the main ramp is iced, that would be the place to try if you are going to try the tubes. The PWC ramp at Jordanelle was also iced in. It was beautiful and sunny at Jordanelle with no wind but fishing was a no go.
Now I don't want anyone to misunderstand, it is not ready yet for ice fishing. Yes there were some people fishing the ice right near the Island at Deer Creek (where it was iced on Sunday) but the newly capped areas did not look ready - lots of scattered open water patches. With the warm temps forecast for the weekend, I have my doubts that it will have safe ice. Be safe out there.

Gonna be 49 degrees there on Mon and 48 on Tues.
Be careful, be very careful.
I don’t want to read about any of you in the newspaper.
