Thanks for the welcome, haha, you guys hit the nail on the head, got to take what you can find in the Utah general elk hunt! Was catching many species of nice fish off the boat last spring in there, but haven’t figured them out through the ice, specifically walleye, oh well, spring is near

Good to hear that you have been doing well at Yuba, guess we just don't have any members that fish there that often. Eyes are tough to catch just about everywhere, in the Winter.

Yes it has, they seem to be thriving really well in there, and not hurting the walleye population like the pike did

Walleye through the ice are a strange breed !!All the research I have done over the past 40+ years indicate that live bait is the trick, illegal in Utah!! If you freeze chub and other minnows like TD does, the that is the next best thing here. Also, timing is critical. First ice is best, early in th3e morning and late in the evening. We don't get the hard freeze's that they get in the Mid west/uppermid west where you 5-6 inches with the first freeze, so the good bite is gone by the time safe ice appears. For those that want to try, a tipup with a frozen minnow would be the best, but we can only have two (2) rods/outfits out , so that limits us greatly. If I were going to Yuba on the ice, I would work up the Park side, or walk over to the points across from the ramp the ramp and work from 10-12 ft out to 30-40 ft. That is a lot of walking by the way !! You can always come in from the painted rocks side, but I would imagine that the water up there is pretty skinny!! Good Luck if you try !!!

Clarification:
Not all live bait is illegal in Utah.
Just live minnows and Salamanders come to mind.
Using live minnows caught in same water body/same day is illegal in Utah.
Dumb, dumb, super dumb rule.
We are SO far behind the times in Utah.

I iced fished it few years ago in mid Feb for my birthday. Finally found walleye after hunting for them the whole day. No ice last year and don't look good for this year.  I did troll up a nice walleye also in June

Way to go, catching any eyes on the ice is tough, for most of use, so catching a limit is awesome, congrats. Nice going on that big one as well. Did you measure it or weigh it?

If I remember correctly was about 23". Did not weight it. 1/8th jointed clam minnow and salted minnow heads always my go to for icing walleye.

Thanks for the info! We were able to get out on the ice a couple times last week, it was 6+ in the narrows, no luck! I’d imagine the ice is melted now with the warm spell, maybe next year!
