I can't say for certain because I wan't at Otter Creek, but I doubt that the ice is off. I went over to Minersville on Saturday morning, and it is basically unfishable. There is still a ton of ice, but you can't get on it without a BIG plank. 12 feet of skim ice in many places around the edge. Not enough open water to fish either. I would think that Otter Creek and Piaute are in much the same condition. Maybe with the warm weather this week you'll find some open water, but I'd stay off the ice unless you can swim back to shore in the afternoon.

For all who would like to know the ice is still thick and the only open water is the shallow bay next to the ramp. The water level is starting to rise so some water around the edges. Give it another two weeks before you'll even have room to cast.

I doubt piute will be any good this year. Last year in september, it was virtually empty. I'd think the fish in there would be kind of few and far between.

That and they killed it off last year. It had a huge mud slide 2 years ago and it never recovered. I'd still consider it a mud hole with no water.

Piute was re-stocked last fall...however, the gates have already been opened on the dam, and we can expect the "bathtub" to be empty once again this year. It's too bad we can't get a little control of the water in Piute...It has the potential to grow big fish...

I could be wrong....but I believe that it was poisoned at the same time that they drained it for dam repair. Fishing has been very good the last couple years...and should be again this year.
