Boat size question
#1
I'm wanting to buy a boat this season and not sure whether to get a 12' or 14'

I want it for just me and my girl to go to Causey, pineview ,and Willard. any advice would be appreciated.

I've had both a 12 and a 14 footer. The 12 footer was great for Causey but it was a little small for Willard because of the bigger waves and the bigger boats that made the waves. If you had a 12 footer that was a deep V you would have less problems at Willard but it would be a little heavy to carry down the dam at Causey. If there is only going to be two of you the 14 footer might be a little large but is just what of what you like and where you are going to be fishing the most. WH2

[#800080]its not the size of your boat. its how you use it[Wink].[/#800080]

[#800080] Where there is w...(don't say it). Bigger is better.[/#800080]

[red]I have a little 12 foot jon boat that I have drug all over the intermountain west. It is nice for the shallow ponds (Clarkston) the smaller ponds (Newton) and motorless ponds (Tony Grove). It does OK in the medium ponds (Hyrum, Porcupine) and is dang scary in the larger ponds (Fishlake, Willard, Flaming Gorge). In those I never go farther from shore than I can swim. The 14 footer may be a little more of a pain hauling across the beach or back up Causey, but if you want to play any in the bigger ponds it will be much safer. Believe me, when the wind picks up even just a little you spend the rest of your day worried about not drowning instead of fishing. Mine only has about a 14 inch draft so that will factor into weight and safety also when you go shopping. [/red]

I owned a 16ft. deep vboat.Let me just say if it was any smaller and not a deep v i would not be here writing this message to you. I was at utah lake one day and a freak storm came out of nowhere ans the waves were so big i couldnt see land! If it wasnt for the size and the deepness of that boat i dont know if i would have made it of the lake .There were 2 boats that didnt make it to shore that day one took on water and sank the other flipped.I took that boat on fishlake, yuba and lake powell with bad waves . So from my experiences with big water i prefer deepVs.

My boat is a 14 foot aluminum but not a very deep hull. There have been lots of times it has scared me but never flipped yet. I wouldn't feel safe in a smaller 12' boat. Go for the 14 at least. Acey
