Barr Lake Wipers

[#000080]Date:[/#000080]3/23/04 [#000080]Place:[/#000080]Barr Lake [#000080]Report By: [/#000080]Donald Broeren

Fished from 3-6 PM. I started out fishing for catfish by the dam with sucker meat and nightcrawlers, I couldn't get a bite. I saw quite a few fish suspending about 15 feet down in 25 feet of water so I started casting a 1/4 oz. gold Kastmaster. I ended up catching 4 wipers between 16 and 21 inches before a storm came up and chased me off the lake. The water temperature was 53 degrees. Barr Lake is about 15-20 minutes from downtown denver. Take i-25 from downtown North, exit i-76. Its right off i-76 about 10 miles up or so.

Aurora also has some wipers, although ive heard its tough. if your in utah what do you need CO wipers for? You got lake powell and stripers Big Grin Big Grin

cuz a striper just doesnt cut it to a wiper. we have one wiper lake here and it doesnt produce fish over 6lbs really. so im looking for a place i can hook a 10 plus wiper for a replica mount. thanks for the info.

I think stripers are one of the funnest fish to fish for. Very exciting to me, and they fight like no other. Ive never caught a wiper, but i do know that large and smallmouth dont compare to them, or atleast the ones we used to catch in lake mead by hoover dam ;/

aha. go catch a wiper and youll see the difference. youll be hooked forever though so becareful it might ruin your fun next time you catch a fish besides a wiper hehe.
