[cool][#800000][size 2]Mine was an all in one system. That is a stick about 6" long with braided line [that I found]wrapped around the stick with a rusty hook on the end. Bait - either garden worms or dough balls. Believe it or not I caught a fair amount of sunnies with that rig. I was about 7 yrs old at that time. Recently I bought a Shamino rod & reel bait casting system which I paid more for than my first car. The times have certainly changed![/size][/#800000]

My first rig was a 5 foot bamboo pole with line tied to the tip and a single hook. The hook, I'm guessing was a size 4. Don't know for sure. Just trying to remember from way back when. I don't ever remember using it since I lived in the desert. I used to act like I was fishing in the dogs water dish. Hehe.

Hi, Dryrod. This is the first time that I have visited this board. You take me back to 1963 when as a Boy Scout our Scout Master took us to the High Uintas in Utah for a one week camp. I didn't own any gear yet so I mowed grass and pulled weeds to earn money and bought my first rod and reel. It was a Mitchell 314 spin cast combo. I lost it a couple of years later [thought it was stolen] but later found it in the attic at my parents home. I still have the reel today and my sons both started their fishing lives with it. They just don't make um like they used ta. DKSRenegade

I'm not sure what my Dad placed into my hands at the very young age. The first rig that I remember though, was a mitchel combo. It was a light blue pole with a Mitchel 302 on it. I still have that one. I was also given some of the old Zebco combos at some time.

Mine was a solid fiberglass casting rod about 5 feet in length and a old steel baitcaster on it.I was 9 years old.The first time I ever used it was with my father bank fishing with nightcrawlers. We never caught a thing until almost dark when I had my first bite. After setting the hook so hard I could have drug a boulder out of the river I hooked into a big fish, and after a good 30 second fight I landed it ,a 20 inch white sucker. My first fish.

Mine was a bamboo rod and old mitchell reel. Later upgrade to my own fiberglass rod and closed face reel. What a piece of junk but caught many fish with it. Used to spend weeks fishing backcountry lakes and streams but now can hardly get my dad out. Rarely fished for anything but native cuts and brook trout.
