Willard Report 04-04-04
#1
Fished Willard from 3p.m.-5p.m. today, caught one wiper 20 in. 6 lbs. 4oz. Caught him about 200 yds, off the north dike trolling a jointed shad rap. Water temp. was 58 to 61.

Theres no such thing as a GOOD map of willard. Theres just not enough in there to map out. Kind of like mapping a bath tub.

Heres a link to a basic layout of willard.

If that fish was 6lb 4 oz then it was ounces off the state Record. Consider yourself lucky. Very few people see wipers that size. I caught a lot of wipers and never caught one over 5 lbs. That is one nice fish for Willard.

I was trolling about 3 mph. I looked in the proclamation and it said the record was 6 lbs. 11 . Dan, we just found out my step-daughter has MS, so were going up to Or. to see her next weekend. Maybe we can go some other time.

I'll have to agree with you BLM, I too have caught hundreds of wipers at Willard and five pounders are few and far between much less a six pounder. Most 20 inch fish are between 3 and 4 pounds but that is a very nice fish Pontoonfool, thanks for sharing. WH2

NOT TO BE RUDE BUT I CAUGHT WIPERS LARGER THEN THAT LOOKS, ALL AROUND FIVE POUNDS I WAS WONDERING HOW YOU WEIGHED IT JUST IN THE PIC IT LOOKS SMALLER JUST WONDERING IF THAT IS A 6 POUNDS FISH THE RECORD WILL BE BROKE THIS YEAR EASY

I'm not saying that its not six pounds but a friend of mine last year caught a 23 1/2 inch wiper in june that only wieghed 41/2 pounds,if he wieghed 6 man the record is going to be broke this year.

I weighed him with a scale made by Rapala I bought at Sportsmans. He was an inch and a half shorter than one I caught fall of 2002, but he weighed more. I didn't think to measure his girth but he was the fattest wiper I've caught. Maybe their fatter than they have been.

There are few things better than the sound of a screaming drag from a Willard Wiper.
