i would reccomend fishing the colorado right in town.. there are some huge cats down in that area. just toss out a worm, or some carp meat. i was down there last year for easter and caught tons of cats. also you can fish the green and catch all of the little cats you want. it gets boring. i fished there last year, kinda hard to find just look on a map and you will see some roads that go there.

Years ago I went with some Varsity Scouts for our summer camp to Moab. We camped along a stream flowing off the mountain into Ken's Lake. It was cold water off the snow pack on the mountain. The scouts swam and played in a waterfall up on the hill. We fished Ken's several times while there along the dike on the south side and at the inlet. We caught rainbow trout and bluegill. The bluegills were hitting the powerbait we had rigged floating from an egg sinker for the trout. One guy said he used a cigarette butt on a bare hook under a bobber and caught lots of bluegill. They were hitting about anything that day. When the dike was constructed and the reservoir built it was planned to be a warmwater fishery with bass. They built structures out of tires and put on the bottom for somewhere for the fish to go. The water they diverted to feed the lake is so cold that the bass never did real well and I don't there are many left if any at all. To get to the lake go south from Moab on the main highway toward Monticello about three or four miles and there is a dirt road that turns off to the left. Follow it about a mile to the lake. From the highway you should be able to see the rock dike. We floated down the Colorado one day on rafts, but I didn't really try fishing it. It was real high when we were there and muddy and dirty. I went down there a couple of weeks ago on business and fished the Colorado along Hwy 128 (just before you get to Moab on the north) and caught several cats on dip baits cast into eddies along the current seams. I suspect I could have done well on cut bait fish or worms too. Nothin too big but worthwhile and fun.

last time i was down there was last may for wheeling i also did some fishing on the colardo didnt have much luck as it was moveing very fast and high and murky so i went to kens lake and caight a few trout and some weird looking fish i have no idea what they where..they are not in the proclamation ether... but had a blast think i had more fun fishing then wheeling.......what kind of truck you takeing. i had my stock pathy... stealbinder is a fun trail and can be tricky also can be ran both ways but most run it so they come out of it by kens lake... i recommend getting a map of the trails so you dont get lost some of the trails are marked real good others arent.....have fun hope you catch some good fish down there...

Hi Utcatman, I too am heading down there this weekend and would like to try the fishing a little way up the river road towards Castle Valley? Have you ever fishing it upstream from town? Maybe just above "big bend" campground. Any thoughts? Thanks

i have fished above moab.. it was pretty good. there are some nice holes about 7-10 miles up stream.. didnt catch any huge ones there but it was still fun... the best fishing that i found was, the slow slough spot that is near the entrance of poisen spider mesa( fun trail, it is a 3+ or 4 I think) hard to get to but there are some huge cats down there. one of my biggest channels that i have ever caught came from that area. really deep on the opposite side of the road.
