everytime i put a lure on i loose it, just a few casts and its caught on something and gone, is there anything i can do maybe some differnet line or something, i need to figure out some kinda solution cause lures are too expensive when i lose them.

[cool][#004040][size 2]One great advantage of a tube is that when you get a hang up one can maneuver around the spot where your apparent hang up originates. Never I repeat never use your pole to pull your lure free. Hand pulling the line they quickly releasing same will sometimes help. Pull from the other direction to the hang up will usually get good results. Now if you are hung up in a sunken log - well start looking for a waterproof chain saw.[/size][/#004040]

[#004040][size 2]I wasn't being sarcastic when I was talking about wading out to the snagged area. After tubing for most of this past Wednesday morning I started bait casting from shore. Got hung up several times which didn't pose a problem since I still wearing my waders. Waded out and saved all my goodies.[/size][/#004040]

Thre are several things you can do, but there may be a few drawbacks involved. You can use the gold colored wire hooks. They will straighten out usually with 8# test Trilene XT or better. The drawback is they will straighten out with a big fish also if you roughhouse him in and don't let the rod and drag take the shock.

You can use weedless hooks. People say they don't hook as good, but I've never had that problem.

You can use bigger line. If you are catfishing that shouldn't be a problem, but if you are bass or crappie fishing I have found out that the smaller the line (less visibility) you use the more success you usually have. If you go to bigger line I would recommend the spider wire. It is probably the strongest line per diameter of all of them. I have used it catfishing since it came out (50 # test) and have only had it broken once, and I have straightened out treble hooks with it pulling them loose from the brush. I crappie fish mostly, and I use the 8# Trilene XT low vis green and only use my own crappie jigs with the gold wire hooks, so I don't lose many jigs from hang-ups. I use the 1/8 th oz. weedless jigs in the heavy brush and stumps so I don't have to add a split shot to make it heavy enough to cast. The split shot will hang up in the cracks on the stumps when you pull it over one. You won't believe how strong the Trilene XT 8# is until you use it. I am a big stout man, but I can't break a jig off it without cutting my hands.

I forgot to mention: If you decide to go to Spider wire or its equivalent, make sure you look at the instructions that come in the box with it and learn to tie the "Spiderwire knot". The Spiderwire won't hold using a regular knot. You also have to cut it with sidecutters for best results, because it is made from Kevlar, the material used to make bullet-proof vests, and it is TOUGH !!

Good post!! Every time I go fishing I usually loose 1 lure if I'm lucky, other days when I'm not so lucky...it gets ugly. The first thing that I try when I feel my lure start to snag is to jerk my rod to try and break it free. Some days that works against me and it gets it snagged even more. So once I'm snagged I put pressure on it and walk up and down the shore hoping it will come free. Sometimes that works and some times it doesnt.

Something that I'm going to buy in the near future is the E-Z Lure Retriever Kit from bass pro shops. Here's the ad below, it only costs $9.99. It looks like it would work for me[].
