Cottonwood Cove, Sat April 24
#1
There was Anglers Choice Tournament here Saturday and they launched about 40 rigs. We went upstream and caught one dink couple coves up on a shad swimbait. Then went into Arizona Bay and watched the bass boats zoom in and out driving over some holding territory. Saw several bass just swimming around off points in about 10 to 20 ft, but couldn't get them to eat. Water was clear and flat - no wind. Looked like the winning combination happened for the rigs who fished downstream of Cottonwood. This was our first trip to Cottonwood and we spent time near the launch area learning the terrain.

Went out on main channel and fished tight to cover during midday - nothing. Ended up at dusk back in same cove we were in that morning and got bit twice on same shad swimbait in water 10 to 7 ft. The bass were either in the emerging weedbeds or tight to cover on the bank. Talk at the dock revealed several other bass fisherman zeroed. Don't know about the striper bite.. saw a couple stripers being filleted and met some shore fisherman who caught 2 on a 3to5 shad rap.

I was in the Angler's Choice tourney with a buddy. Perfect weather, we only managed two fish for 5.16# & finished a little below middle of the pack. We just started fishing these tourneys so I guess it will take a little experience to improve on our results. On the upside though both of the fish came from spots I mapped so I feel pretty good about that working out. One of the fish I got on a jig off a bush someone else had just fished & the other was on dropshot.
