Fished the lake on 5/8. Action was steady, but the fish were all between 6 and 10 inches. Some what dissapointing after the experience I had ice last winter. I was checked by a game warden and he said that most fish coming out recently were on the small side this year and last.

What was the weather like up there? Is there any snow remaining? How about the road conditions? I know just what you're talking about in the river. I've had killer days with a fly and then the very next day, same conditions, that fly's not producing squat.

I believe some fish get conditioned to a certain fly and therefore will not hit it after they've seen it too many times. Try a fly you think nobody ever fishes up there and it will probably work, something flashy, maybe with some red to it. My friend did it one day with a coachman and it got him some fish when nothing else would produce. Give it a go next time nothing is working.

Thanks for the tips on flies. I have tried Humpys with red before and had good success. Royals can work real well sometimes too. The best days for me have been with a green fuzzy scud. I have really killed them before with that nymph. Well, if anyone has a report on flyfishing the lake, please let me know what is up.
