Ogden River Report
#1
Got out to fish the Ogden River at the mouth of the canyon. I only went 150

yards up the river, but the fish are active. Up the canyon ther stone flies are

out and the browns are going wild for them. Keep in mind sections of this

river are private as I found out. At the mouth, the PMD were out in full force

and fish were rising all over the place. I didn't have any PMD's in my flybox,

so I threw everything at them (RS2, San Juan Worm, WD40, bead head Prince)

I caught a beautiful six inch brown on the prince. I finally go into them with

a bead head pheasant tail in size 16. They jumped all over it. I pulled in a

nice 16 incher that tasted great (the DWR is begging people to take a few), I

also tangled into one that was at least 1 1/2 pounds. I got a great look at him

before he wrapped my line and broke it. I caught several more before heading

home. I did spook a large brown I would estimate at 18 inches due to the low

clear water. He was in a place I thought couldn't hold a fish. I will learn I guess.

If anyone else has places to go on the ogden or can report on the stoneflies

as the hatch proceeds up the river and let me know where they are hatching

that would be great. Thanks all.

Very nice report, and welcome to BFT. The Ogden can hold some really nice fish. Good luck on your next trip.

Great Report, made me want to go give it a try.

I have only been fly fishing for a couple of years but it seems real early for Pale Morning Duns, are you sure the where not Blue Wing Olives?

Never tried stone flies, guess I will have to goto an entomology web site and do so learning.

Keep your line tight.

As far as I could tell the flies that where on the water best matched my size 16 PMD. The browns didn't notice. I am going to give it another shot this weekend
