... STRONG PACIFIC STORM EXPECTED FOR PART OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND...

A COLD PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM ORIGINATING FROM THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL PUSH A STRONG COLD FRONT ACROSS THE REGION ON FRIDAY. GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT ON THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY ACROSS THE WESTERN HALF OF UTAH.

TEMPERATURES WILL DROP SHARPLY FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY BRINGING WINTER-LIKE CONDITIONS BACK TO THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO BE WIDESPREAD ACROSS NORTHERN AND CENTRAL UTAH BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON WITH ISOLATED SHOWERS IN THE SOUTHERN AND EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE. SNOW LEVELS WILL LOWER TO NEAR 6000 FEET FRIDAY NIGHT AND AS LOW AS AROUND 5500 FEET ON SATURDAY AS SHOWERY WEATHER CONTINUES. A SIGNIFICANT LATE SEASON SNOWFALL EVENT IS POSSIBLE IN THE FAVORED AREAS SUCH AS THE WASATCH AND HIGH UINTA MOUNTAINS FOR FRIDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUING INTO SATURDAY. SOME SHOWERS MAY LINGER INTO SUNDAY ACROSS THE NORTHEAST MOUNTAINS OTHERWISE DRIER WEATHER AND A WARMING TREND IS EXPECTED FOR SUNDAY AND MEMORIAL DAY.

ANYONE INVOLVED IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES SHOULD MAKE PREPARATIONS FOR COLD... WET... AND WINDY CONDITIONS ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. TRAVEL MAY BECOME TREACHEROUS THROUGH THE MOUNTAINOUS AREAS OF THE REGION.... [Image: blank.gif]
