Can anyone give me some good advice on a fish finder? I have a 16' flat bottom boat with a 4 horse trolling motor.

It all depends on what you are willing to spend. There have been multiple discussions about fishfinder on this board. Lots of people with lots of opinions. I think most will agree, go with as much power as you can afford. Verticle pixels is also another thing to look for...more is better. Stick with units made by Garmin, or Lowrance/Eagle, and you should be golden. Go to the fishing stores and try out the demo models. Get a feel for how easy they are to operate, and what features they have, then get the one you like the best/can afford.

What price range? What features do you require? As was said, search this topic for some good advice. But I'll disagree that more power is better. Just find the unit with the features you need in the price range you can afford and go fishing.

I agree with Gumbo. As I understand, high power is needed more when running at fast speed or when fishing deep reservoirs. Vertical pixels are very important. The Eagle fishmark 320 or 480 finders are great for the money (around $200)

I had the same question a few months ago and what TKB said is what I did, and that is go to a few store and check out a few models. I ended up buying the lowrance x-125, i wanted the x-135 for the extra wattage. I first looked at the peak to peak wattage for a finder. I wanted for myself to stay between 3000 and up. (ended up a little below) also I wanted at least a 5 inch screen to look at. plus pixels. I like lowrance mainly cause them and eagle are all I have been around and used.
