Little Wood River - June 21st, 2004
supplied by: [#0000ff]Silver Creek Outfitters[/#0000ff]
FISHING: Fair
The window to fish the Little Wood is coming to a close. There are a couple more weeks to fish before it gets too hot and the snakes come out. With any desert fishery, the low light times of day are the best time to fish. Fish the riffles with nymphs and/or salmon fly imitations. Fish the banks and deep water with a salmon fly imitation and move around to cover a lot of water.

Big Lost River - June 21st, 2004
supplied by: [#0000ff]Silver Creek Outfitters[/#0000ff]
FISHING: Good
The Lost and its tributaries are fishing well, although as water levels fall off, the action should pick up. The warming trend this week should bring up the Lost and its tributaries making them a bit trickier to fish. If you give it a try, look to cast big attractors under overhanging limbs, and also try bead head nymphs in the riffles near the heads of the pools. Be very careful wading these streams right now and always use a wading belt!

Again this is still primarily a float boat fishery. It is still fishable for the wader but be careful of the high water. The Salmon Flies are about a week to a week and a half away so be getting ready. Also there should be some caddis and PMDs hatching. Be ready for the Pink Alberts also.

Snake River (Below Swan Falls)

Fair

This still hasn't picked up but the water is dropping and clearing up so it should be getting good anytime. The fishi should be done spawning so if you want to take home a couple of fish to eat there should be no harm. Remeber the big fish are more important that the 12 inchers so let the big boys go.

Flies: Clowser Minnows in black, chartreuse, and white, 2-6, Stayner Ducktail, 6-10, Crawdad Patterns, 2, Woolly Buggers in brown, black, and white, 6-10, Zonkers in white and olive, 2

RECORDED: [Image: sun.gif] 82 ° [Image: blackSpacer.gif] FISHING: Good
Duck Valley Indian Reservation

Good

I have friend who fished it this weekend and it fished very well. The Chiroinomids are hatching and the fish know it. A floasting and line and midge imitations are going to be your best bet in Mountain View. Billy Shaw is good along with Sheep Creek but not up to par with Mountain View. I heard a report of a 29 inch, 12 1/2 pound rainbow coming out of Mountain View.

Flies: Woolly Buggers in black, brown, and olive, 6-10, Mohair Leech, 8-12, Damsel Nymph, 10-12, Chironomids, 10-14, Disco Midge, 16-18, Parachute Midge in black, cream, and olive, 14-18

This river has really picked up in a week. The hatches are starting and the fish are looking up. There are Green Drakes and Pink Alberts both. It may be a good deal to fish those two patterns in tandem. Your hookups may increase. Also remeber you can always catch fish on nymphs.

Flies: Pheasant Tail, 12-16, Prince Nymph, 10-16, Kaufmann's Stone in black and brown, 6-10, Copper Johns, 10-16, Woolly Buggers in brown, black, and olive, 6-10, Zonkers in black, white, and olive, 2-4, Green Drakes, 8-10, Pink Alberts, 14-18

The "Creek" is still improving with the warming weather. They are seeing Green Drakes in the conservancy , everyday there are a few more PMDs and Calibaetis on the water. Most of the hatches are happening in the evening but fishing can be good throughout the day. Try fishing tiny nymphs through the day.The Brown Drakes are about done.

Box Canyon
Good fishing. This is mostly a nymphing proposition now. The Salmonflies have come and gone, although we we should start seeing a few Golden stoneflies. The best flies now are #8-10 Rubberlegs stonefly nymphs, #16-18 beadhead Copper Johns, #14-16 Prince Nymphs, etc.

Last Chance
Fair fishing. The PMD hatch is improving. Otherwise, the Caddis hatch has been fairly reliable, especially in the evening. The best flies now are #14-16 Spent Partridge Caddis in tan, #14-16 Emergent Sparkle Pupa, and #16-18 PMD dun and emerger imitations. Also, keep some #18 Rusty Spinners handy for morning and evening fishing.

Railroad Ranch
Opens today! Evening Caddis action should be good. The PMD hatch has been somewhat sporadic, but we expect it to improve. We should start seeing the Drakes and Flavs any day now. Also see the report for Last Chance, above.

Riverside Campground to Warm River
The fishing is improving in this section. Water clarity has improved considerably. For dry flies, try Golden Stones and Caddis. Subsurface, the best bets are beadhead nymphs (Copper John, Prince, Hare's Ear) and stonefly nymphs.

Warm River to Ashton Reservoir
Good fishing. The hatches now are Caddis and Golden Stones. PMD's are hatching in some areas. Dry/dropper rigs are producing well. Otherwise, deep nymphing with beadheads and smaller (#8-10) stonefly nymphs is producing well. We should start seeing a few Flavs and Green Drakes.

From Ashton Dam Downstream
Excellent fishing. We're seeing great hatches of Caddis, PMD's, and Flavs. We've just started to see a few Green Drakes. Unfortunately, we don't anticipate a Gray Drake hatch this year, due to water conditions. When there's no hatch, try a beadhead nymph rig, or a dry/dropper rig. Below Fall River confluence, the water may be a little high and off color.

Henry's Fork Tributaries
Fall River has cleared considerably. The Salmonflies have progressed several miles upstream from Chester. Dry Salmonfly imitations are producing a few fish. Best bets right now are #4-6 Dry Salmonflies, #4-6 Rubberlegs and #12-14 Beadhead Nymphs.

Warm River is clear and fishing well. Try beadhead nymphs and attractor dries.

Water conditions on other small streams in the H.F. drainage are improving. Robinson Creek, Rock Creek, and other small streams should be fishing well. Check back for periodic updates.

Henry's Lake & Island Park Reservoir
A few fish are being caught at Henry's Lake. Overall, the Island Park area stillwaters have not been producing very well. It's hard to say whether the slow fishing is due to cold weather, or whether it's a residual effect from the last few years' drought conditions. As more anglers try their luck, the story may change.
