Our yellowstone (yellostone lake) trip this year was AWSOME i have been going every year since 1987 and have never caught so many big yellowstone Cutts! I was worried after last year we caught big cutts too, but no small ones. This year we did get 4 that would have been keepers if they still let you keep the cutts. I hope the lakers are in check now and this year is a taste of things to come. But i am no going to get my hopes up (to high). It was on VERY fun trip. I hope to get my buddy and his dad up there this september for the fall action. I will post some pics when i get them. Get to Yellowstone for some GREAT cutthroad fishing!!!!!!!!!!!!

No guessing on those cutts whether or not they are a rainbow. Many fond memories of fishing in Yellowstone. Times have sure changed from when I was a child fishing off of Fisherman's Bridge.

We are or i am thinking of the 3rd weekend in September so i can hit the Grouse hunt opener with my Bro. The best fishing for me this year was the first day we got on the lake by 11:00 am after our drive from Logan and setting up camp. We just fished the Thumb around Grant marina and it was Great!! We try a lot of spots. If one spot is not producing we move on. No sense in staying where the fish are not. One year i only used a red and white spoon and caught fish left and right, have not had the red and whit work for me on the lake for some time now. Some times just moving around the corner works. Our last day was a good one i spent the day before fishless for 6 hours and played fishing guide, i unhooked the fish for my Dad and brother and moved the boat out when we got to close and tried to catch fish but no go, i was using the same thing my Bother was and he was KILLING them. The next day at the first spot we tried i caught six before anyone else had caught one. The fish Gods rewarded me for keeping a good attitude the day before. And i caught a laker the last day the only one in our boat to do so. My cousin in the other boat caught 3 Lakers to skunk his brother and dad (laker wise). The lake seems to be good when the temp is on the cool side. We got rained on every day this year (off and on rain) and got some hail the second day. We also go chased off the lake by lightning twice our last day on the lake. I have had trips that we get rain of and on for 3 days and then the 4th day it warms up and the fishing just dies. Anyway my suggestion would be to keep moving around till you find them. I have had years that we would have to let the lure sink for a count of 6 or so and the years where the are in a foot of water and cruising a foot under the surface in 15 feet of water.
I asked the guy in the back country office how the fishing was in Yellowstone lake this year and if people were catching any fish and he said it all depends on your skill level. I do not know if my Dad is an awsome guide or we are just lucky but we had one heck of a trip on the lake this year! I want to go back really really really BAD!!!!! I had fish that would go where ever they wanted to go. I was using 6lbs silver thread and could not horse them. I had one fish that rolled a few times and cut my line and took my lure. It was one fun trip. I just can not say how much i enjoyed the trip this year.

You hit it right on the nose. Times are nothing like when I was growing up in the 50's and my parents took us boys to good ol Jellystone.
