Hey there Tube Persons,
I've had no trouble slow trolling my 9wt fly gear with a good heavy sinking line. I've also done pretty decent trolling stuff in the Big Salty. No problems plastics or live bait either.
I've been checking up on some lakes that might have stretches of deeper bottom that might hold better fish.
With some of the lead core lines (12 to 30 lb ratings... heavier ratings more grains per foot)it is recommended that one troll from 0.5 to 1.5 mph. I suppose that's what you need to keep your line/bait at the desired depth.
Have any of you guys done any lead core trolling targeting 100 ~ 150 feet or so? What did you drag.... with what line... at about what estimated speed? Thinking of messing with some small plugs and plastics when a lake turns over.

[#0000ff]Hey Jr., there is a book available on formulas for trolling different lines at different speeds with different lures. I think it is put out by one of the line manufacturers. Sorry, can't remember the name.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]At any rate, I have done a fair amount of trolling. I have used various kinds of lines and weights and divers. My best guess is that for the depth and speed you want to troll, that lead core will probably not be your best bet.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Most guys that dredge deep use either downriggers or wire line. Both of those are cumbersome.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I'm going to suggest you post this on the Utah board. There are some pretty savvy trollers there who can probably give you the name of the book and also make some more educated recommendations.[/#0000ff]

[black]Hi there TubeDude,[/black]

Great Idea! On paper, the lead core should not be much more trouble than my heavy sinking lines but....... sustaining the required forward speed to run something other than a woolly bugger or clouser (true speed NOT the effort you're putting out to attain it) and with all the variables that we have learned (to our woe) to consider in the Big Salty it's a toss up.

As you say... I go check the Utah board.
