WADDILL REFUGE GETS CATFISH BOOST
#1
The Waddill Urban Wildlife Refuge in Baton Rouge will receive a boost in catfish for one of its fishing ponds, thanks in part to a generous donation from the family of an avid hunter and fisherman. The Wildlife Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has purchased additional channel catfish for one of the fishing ponds at Waddill, with the assistance of the family of the late Mr. Thomas Adams, Jr.
Adams passed away this spring and his widow, Mae Adams, requested that collections made for him be donated to the department. This donation was used towards the purchase of 500 pounds of eight to 12-inch catfish that will be stocked in one of the two fishing ponds at the site.
Waddill Refuge, located off of Flannery Road in Baton Rouge, is also an outdoor education center. It is a unique facility that offers recreational opportunities for fishing, aquatic education classes, hunter education classes, nature trails, archery, bird watching and other activities. It is also home to Baton Rouge's National Hunting and Fishing Day activities in September. It is anticipated that these channel catfish will provide lots of Smiles on the faces of the children that compete in the kids fishing contest at the annual event.
"We are very grateful for the generosity of the Adams family," said David Arnoldi, LDWF Wildlife Division Assistant Administrator. "This donation will allow Mr. Adams to leave a legacy expressing his love of Louisiana's great outdoors."
