FISHING: Good
Big Lost River & Tributaries
The Lost River below Mackay Reservoir has been dropping and beginning to fish better and access is easier. The morning show starts with Crane Fly activity, best imitated with an Arnold's Foam Skater. Fish this fly on the swing, but on the surface. The strikes are a lot of fun to watch. The afternoon activity consists of Yellow Sallies, some Baetis and some PMD action. The nights are caddis time. Sight nymphing the riffles is always an option on the Lost. Stimulators with droppers are a good way to search the river during the afternoons.

The headwaters waters around Copper Basin are fishing well, but like the Big Wood they are subject to dirty flows when the weather comes in. There is a good variety of insects including strong caddis, large mayflies and Trico activity. The bugs are small and the fish are keying on smaller fly patterns. Avoid the temptation to throw big attractors here and stick with Parachute Adams, Trudes, and Gulper Specials from size 16 to 14. Be extremely cautious in this area when and if the storm come in, the amount of lightning activity that can take place here is beyond words. If the sky begins to darken, call it a day.
