Bilk Creek Reservoir

Fair to good for float tubers with fly patterns. Slow for bait anglers. (6/14)

Big Springs Reservoir Fishing is poor due to low water

Boulder Reservoir

Water levels are dropping at Boulder but fishing remains fair to good. Late summer weed growth in the reservoir makes shore fishing difficult. Using a float tube or small boat to get out to open water is your best bet.

Flies: Bead head nymphs and scud patterns usually work well. Lures: small spinners. Fishing is best in the mornings and evenings.
Boulder was stocked this spring with 1,125 rainbow trout.

Carson River Pat Sollberger reports the flows are extremely low this summer and water temperatures are high. Largemouth bass are even rarely seen in the river this year.

A Trophy fish entry form was sent in by Russ Wheaton of Minden. A 6lbs 2oz Brown was caught by Russ. The fish was caught west of Cradel Baugh bridge.

Fort Churchill Cooling Ponds

Fishing has been slow, but few anglers have been out to check.
For largemouth; plastic worms, top-water either early or late in the day, and small minnow-like crank baits. For catfish, night crawlers and calf's livers have been doing best

Hobart Reservoir

Early summer is one of the best times to fish Hobart. The reservoir is full and the water is clear. Shore fishing tends to yield more brook trout, where as anglers who can get out into deeper water will catch more rainbows.
Flies: prince nymph, hare's ear, damsel nymph, wooly bugger. Lures: small light colored spinners. Anglers may want to target the creek inlet for staging rainbow trout.
Hobart is scheduled to receive 1,500 rainbow trout in June. Hobart gets little pressure, so carryover trout are abundant even before stocking occurs.

Lahontan Reservoir, Carson River

The walleye and wipers are in the shallows.

Fish rocky shore areas (6-mile beach and the narrows) with crankbaits.

Lake Tahoe

The mackinaw bite has been very good. Shore fishing off Cave Rock has been fair to poor.
Trolling 180-250 feet deep in the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and Cave Rock. Using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."" Shore fishing from Cave Rock try using panther martins.

We received two trophy fish entry forms from Tahoe. One form by Michael Nielsen of Tahoe stateline. Michael caught a 28lb 2 oz Mackinaw using a 9 inch Image Lure. The other Mackinaw was caught by Rick Shoemaker. Rick Mack. 22lbs 1oz using a Repala. Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area

Fishing in Hinkson Slough is tough due to the extensive vegetative growth. Try fishing the cooling ponds for bass early in the morning and dusk.

North Pond is empty of water and not to refill until later this year.

[/li][/ul] Seasonal Conservation aid Aaron reports some big fish still being caught in Knott creek ranging from 19-23 inches. All fish reported are being caught from tubes and boats. Lots of weeds on the south end. Onion lake reports of 10- 20 fish a day being caught. Blue Lakes weed are getting thick. Some fish being caught around weed beds. Still good reports of Brook trout caught form 14-16 inches

Lots of may fly's present try using May fly patterns.
Only artificial lures (& flies) with single barbless hooks may be used at Knott Ck. Res. Limit is 1 trout, minimum size 18". Five fish limit at Onion & Blue.

Squaw Creek Reservoir Squaw Reservoir continues to be the fishing hot spot. The best fishing has been in the mornings and evenings. Anglers are reporting catching mostly cutbows, rainbows and bull head catfish. However there are some sunfish, Browns and Large mouth bass to target.
Olive and peacock colored nymphs are catching fish using a very slow retrieve. The bite has been soft, so be patient and pay attention. If the water is turbid (muddy), use darker colors (black). Try wooly buggers, sheep creek, prince nymph, birds nest. Shore anglers are having success floating worms off the bottom.

Squaw has been stocked with over 6,000 catcheable rainbow trout this spring.

Topaz Lake and Canal

Pat Sollberger repots Topaz Canal has produced a few but large rainbow trout. Topaz Lake is always slow this time of year fishing for trout.
In the lake, try fishing for largemouth bass in the shallows during the early morning or evening. Lures such as crankbaits and topwater may do the trick.
Open

Truckee River The August flows are around 300cfs through Reno/Sparks which is providing good fishing conditions. High daytime temperatures limit the good fishing hours to morning and evenings. Warmer water will have larger fish looking for deeper, cooler water. Anglers should target these areas.

Bait Fishing- drifting worms with enough weight to bounce off the bottom. Flies: Nymph fishing with Hares Ear, Prince Nymph and Copper Johns. There has been some dry fly action in the early morning hours using Elk hair Caddis flies,Yellow Sally's, and Stimulators Lures: rapalas and cast master have been producing some nice fish.
Lake Tahoe is expected to drop below its natural rim within the next few weeks. Water levels will drop severely at that point. Get your fishing in now while the fishing is still good.

Walker Lake Fishing is slowing down due to higher surface water temperatures.

Fish deep near the Cliffs, between 40 and 70 feet deep. Jigging seems to produce the most fish.

East Walker River
special regulation waters

Flows are fairly high near 150 cfs and fishing at the Elbow has been good all summer. Primarily stocked rainbows about 10 inches are being caught. Few anglers are fishing at the Catch-and-release area (Rosaschi Ranch), But I've heard of some nice browns being caught.
Fly fishing is always a good choice using wooly buggers, prince nymphs, hares ear, and san Juan worms. Night crawlers work well for browns and rainbows downstream at the Elbow.
Fish are easily stressed this time of year due to low flows - Treat with care when releasing! Don't forget, whitefish are just as challenging fun to catch as rainbow and brown trout.

West Walker River Water temperatures have risen and fishing is slow.

Find deeper holes to fish - worms are best to catch browns.

Wall Canyon Reservoir

Water levels at Wall Canyon Reservoir have dropped to the point that a limited fish kill has occurred. The reservoir is not recommended as a fishing destination this year.

All ponds have been stocked so trout are available to anglers. Sparks Marina, Virginia Lake and the Paradise Ponds have all received channel catfish plants in past years with few anglers taking advantage of them. Trout will be most active in the mornings, catfish fishing picks up in the afternoon and evenings.

Sparks Marina: Target different depths using a slip bobber. All other ponds: float a worm or power bait off the bottom. Use a bobber in areas where weeds are an issue.
There was 22 inch brown trout caught at Sparks Marina on the south shore between the dog play area and the pump using power bait. There was also a 16 inch rainbow trout caught from the dock on the south shore using a panther martin reports Conservation Aid Billy Foster

Washoe Lake

Extremely low water conditions. Conditions are very muddy and difficult. Some anglers have reported catching large catfish and carp at the State Park boat ramps (north and south).
Catfish have been biting on worms and chicken liver. The water is very shallow, cast your bait out as far as you can. Some anglers are wading out a ways before casting to get to a little deeper water.
