(8/11/04) - Water temperatures are a little cooler this week. Surface temperatures recently ranged from 68 degrees in the Hiwassee River to the upper 70's in the Tennessee River. A longer cooling trend is needed to increase the catch rate. Stripers are being caught in the tailwaters and near Sequoyah Nuclear Plant. Shad is the better choice for bait, but a few other baits and lures are also being used. Catfish are being caught by many fishermen in all areas of the lake. White bass are being caught along the river shoals and flats as well as the deeper humps. Spoons and roostertails are as good a choice as any. Bass fishermen are catching just a few fish. These bass are being caught in deeper water while casting plastic worms. Some surface action is occurring in the major creeks. Bluegill are being caught along the river drops and along the steeper river banks while using crickets.
