GF awards contract for new boat ramp
#1
The project to build a new boat ramp on the Red River north of Riverside Dam in Grand Forks continues to roll.
The Grand Forks City Council recently approved a bid of $148,237 from local contractor ICS Inc. to construct the ramp. According to Wayne Lembke, project engineer for the city of Grand Forks, a pre-construction meeting between the city and the contractor should take place sometime in the next couple of weeks, and work on the ramp then can proceed.
The completion deadline is Nov. 1.
According to Lembke, the low bid came in about $2,000 over the engineering department's estimate of $146,295. The construction of an asphalt ring road around the parking lot at the ramp site also raised the cost from initial projections.
The city has received $97,000 in grant monies from the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District and the Grand Forks County Water Board to help fund the ramp project. The city is using money from its Greenway Work in Progress Fund to finance the balance of the project, Lembke said.
River levels are ideal for constructing the new ramp.
"Hopefully, we get the river to cooperate and don't get a lot of huge rains this fall," Lembke said.
