Fished Open Party, yes Open Party on the Blue Horizon.. Our goal was to go the 90 miles where the fleet got bit the day before but of course they didn't bite on my day.. About 30 boats around us looking for fish.. Nobody really saw any volume of fish like the days before.. Hit a few kelps for nada but Fishingminds did hook a Dodo but lost it at deep color.. We did manage 3 Troll fish and one bait fish in the area but that was it.. After a while for nothing we saw the Producer, New Lo-Ann, Prowler and the PQ all take off east fast.. Richard new that they were getting called into the East from somebody.. If you don't know by now you will know, there is three sets of groups in the fleet.. Its like 3 different teams out there on the water.. They each have their own private chip.. Richard confirmed that the fish were east of us so we headed in but at this time we were running out of time being so far down.. We got about 5 miles short and we found a nice kelp.. It was holding with Dodo's and Albies.. Fish started boiling and guys were getting hooked right away.. I threw my awesome Red jig got hooked up but Wardo the dog undid my drag when I wasn't looking.. I tried to set the hook by grinding but to no avail.. I couldn't set the hook with no drag, he was on for a minute and gone the next and guess what.. It was a fricking DODO... WARDO!! Oh well, by this time a few guys farmed some fish but we did hook the bigger model Albies.. We landed 7 big Albies and one nice 30lb Dodo on this stop.. Looked at the clock and Richard said we have to start heading home but we will stop on a paddy.. I was fired up on that but one problem no kelp in sight on the way home..
We did see three big schools of the 60-80lb model Bluefins crashing.. Every time we tried to slide up on them they went down.. Threw my jig in the middle of them for Nothing.. Lots of Seiners out there scooping them up..
One the most awesome things I have ever seen happened on the way home.. I was taking a nap on the way home in my chair out on the deck, to be woken up by a screaming Wardo.. Wardo had been eyeing my new Harnell type rod.. We were going about 11kts and he wanted to see how my rod casted.. Fishingminds was with him in the bow at this time so he was just seeing how it casted.. He throws it out just in the middle of the water nothing around.. He gets bit by DODO and he's on.. He ran down the side and yelled I woke up.. I thought he was screwing around with my rod.. Then I see this DODO jumping out of the water.. I couldn't believe it.. It was on my rod with my new weapon the red jig called a Tampon believe it or not.. Wardo and Jake were running the boat at this time so we didn't stop.. Wardo tried to skip the fish in but came off after a little while.. UNBELIEVABLE..
I guess you can just throw jig at anytime after witnessing this..
Total count: 13 Albies up to 45lbs and one 30lb Dodo
I will try it again next week if I could ever get a group together on the same day.. Probably do a six pac...
Thanks to Richard, Jimmy, Jake and fricken Wardo
