Pete Gill from Nevada State Parks said that fishing has been slow. Sporadic rains caused the water to become murkier. Dedicated anglers were able to catch a few rainbow trout that measured 11 inches. The fish were taken primarily with live worms. Anglers were not as successful using PowerBait.
A few bass were also taken with crank baits and small spinners.

Fishing continued to be fair. Stocked rainbow trout that averaged 11 inches were taken with PowerBait and live worms.
A few hand-size crappies were taken with gigs. The water level is still low but anglers are still catching fish.
After weeks of anticipation, the shore fishing has finally taken off in the Boulder Basin with striped bass being caught by anglers who are casting lures to the fish.
Both shore anglers and boaters are catching stripers by casting Pencil Popper lures at Hemenway Harbor and Special Events Beach. On Monday (8/23/04) morning, a boater reported to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) that he caught 15 stripers in that area.
Other areas that have produced stripers recently are Government Wash and Black Island. Sporadic success has been found as well near the tires at Lake Mead Marina.
Fishing was slow over the weekend for the few boaters who took to the water in the Overton Arm. NDOW creel census clerks checked only one angler on Saturday (8/21/04) at Overton Beach Marina and he failed to catch a fish after putting in 6 hours of effort. On Sunday, (8/22/04) creel clerks only saw one fish at Echo Bay Marina and that was a 1½-pound largemouth bass that was caught at the islands in front of the marina.
Fishing was very good for the 40 anglers who were on hand for last Friday’s (8/20/04) rainbow trout plant at Willow Beach. It appeared that everyone was successful and several limits of 10 trout were caught.
Striped bass fishing continues to be fair to good at Cottonwood Cove, but most of the fish weigh a pound or less. The fish are being caught around the narrows above Cottonwood by boaters who are fishing with anchovies and squid.

Daniel Maes, assistant area manager, said that fishing success increased from the previous week, and he rates the fishing as good for both rainbow trout and bass. Maes checked a couple of fish that measured 16 inches, but the majority averaged 13 inches.
Anglers fishing both Haymeadow and Cold Springs reservoirs took trout with Powerbait and artificial worms.
As is common this time of year, weed growth has started to become a factor. Haymeadow’s weed growth is worse than Cold Spring’s, but both reservoirs are still fishable from the shore.
Anglers reported better success for channel catfish at Sunset Park, Lorenzi Park, and Floyd Lamb State Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City. The fish were taken with an assortment of baits.
