Summertime Action Remains Consistent
#1
There has been no lack of current this week on the reef. The kingfish action has been fairly consistent with some being caught each day. With the good current and a blue/green edge, the sailfishing action has also been consistent. For those looking for dolphin action, the good news is that they are being found in the 6 - 8 mile range. The down side, however, is that there have been lots of fish that are under size. If you look long enough, you'll find some decent keepers and if you find a floater, there have been some good size fish up to 25 pounds being caught.

We made one trip this week to get out and do some more exploring and testing of reels. Once again, we found a large school of pilchards and one throw of the net gave us all the bait needed. This time we concentrated on the deeper water wrecks in the area south of Haulover Inlet. The current was cranking to the north at 3.9 MPH and it took two pounds of lead to get the bait down in the 220 - 230 feet that we were fishing in. The results were very pleasing as we caught and released 5 amberjack in the 5 to 8 pound class. These fish were under the legal length, however they put up a strong fight and were just what we needed. We left Spinnaker Marina at about 9:45 am and called it a day at 12 noon so Joe could get home and pack for a trip.

On Saturday afternoon, I did a tarpon fishing seminar at Bass Pro Shops. Throughout the year, they have numerous fishing seminars given by local guides. It is well worth your time to sit in on one or more of these seminars if you happen to be in the store on that day.

Even though the weather is hot, the fishing is consistent. It's getting into late summer and it's the time of year when there are plenty of days open to book a trip. Give me a call and lets get in some fishing time.
