VERNAL — The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) has increased the fishing limit from four to eight fish at Big Sand Wash Reservoir in Duchesne County.
"Effective Aug. 27, the DWR doubled the daily bag and possession limit for all game fish [at the reservoir]," said Chad Crosby, Northeastern Region fisheries manager for the DWR. "For example, the state trout limit on trout is four fish, so now anglers can take eight from Big Sand Wash.
"The rule change is to allow anglers to harvest more of the fish before the lake is treated and refilled," he said. "The reservoir has been drained fairly low because the dam is undergoing reconstruction. Just prior to being refilled, we plan to treat the reservoir to remove undesired fish."
Crosby also asks anglers to access the reservoir from the east side to avoid the reconstruction efforts taking place on the dam. According to the contractors, some access is available from the highway to the west, but anglers need to avoid the construction area.
